Yesterday, according to "POST&PARCEL", Alibaba Group's logistics department Cainiao Network announced the launch of direct air transport from China to East Malaysia to strengthen Lazada's cross-border logistics.
Previously, the way Chinese goods were transported to East Malaysia was mainly through transshipment. For example, Sabah and Sarawak require multiple modes of transportation, including international freight to Kuala Lumpur Airport in Malaysia, domestic flights to Kota Kinabalu in Sabah or Kuching in Sarawak, and then the last mile express delivery to the consumer's doorstep. However, due to the impact of the epidemic and the restrictions on international and domestic commercial and cargo flights imposed by the Movement Control Order (MCO), delivery time has been further extended, exacerbating delivery challenges.
Cainiao Network and Lazada launched direct air transport from China to East Malaysia in order to provide more stable long-term shipping and provide a more excellent customer experience. The route operates three times a week and is expected to reduce logistics costs for customers by more than 50%, and shorten the average delivery time by two days, from 14 days to 12 days or as fast as 7 days. Lazada said the move is aimed at improving delivery efficiency and stability amid growing consumer demand.
Shawn Louis, Executive General Manager of Cainiao and Chief Logistics Officer of LazGlobal , said that industry data shows that the scale of e-commerce in Malaysia will more than double from US$6 billion to US$13 billion from 2020 to 2025, with 61% of cross-border e-commerce purchases coming from China. Against the backdrop of growing consumer demand and intensifying competition among e-tailers, excellent logistics services will continue to be a key differentiator for merchants to improve customer experience and establish competitive advantage.
Shawn Louis emphasized that in order to further simplify the logistics and transportation chain and provide consumers with more efficient and seamless transportation services, Cainiao Network and Lazada have opened a direct air route from China to East Malaysia, effectively eliminating the delivery impact caused by domestic air and land transportation. This logistics upgrade will enable consumers in East Malaysia to have a better consumption experience, as they can now enjoy the same delivery timeliness and transportation costs as West Malaysia.
