Data released by the Indonesian Ministry of Health on the 13th showed that in the past 24 hours, there were 47,899 newly confirmed cases of the epidemic in Indonesia in a single day. So far, the cumulative number of confirmed cases in Indonesia has risen to 2,615,529, with a total of 68,219 deaths and a total of 2,139,601 cured.
In a report on the 13th, the Nikkei Asian Review stated that as the largest economy in Southeast Asia, Indonesia has had more than 40,000 new cases per day for two consecutive days . Indonesia has surpassed India to become the new "epicenter" of the COVID-19 epidemic in Asia.
The area where the Indonesian capital Jakarta is located has been experiencing a shortage of medical supplies since the end of June , including oxygen, medicines, beds and even medical staff. Some hospitals have been forced to temporarily close emergency services due to many medical staff falling ill or a reduction in oxygen supply.
Indonesia is now facing the same shortage of medical resources as India was two months ago . As the pandemic raged, oxygen cylinders became a hot commodity, with prices soaring three times.
The Indonesian government has ordered oxygen producers to supply all oxygen to medical institutions. Oxygen cylinder suppliers said the price of a cylinder of oxygen has soared from the usual $50 to $140, and many suppliers have run out of stock.
Indonesian Trade Minister Lutfi also said that due to the collapse of Indonesia's domestic medical system, the National Disaster Management Agency ( BNPB) has requested the import of a variety of medical supplies.
It is understood that the Indonesian government has ordered liquid oxygen and tens of thousands of oxygen generators from abroad. Due to the large number of patients in hospitals in densely populated areas, the demand for medical oxygen has exceeded the production capacity of more than 1,700 tons per day .
The epidemic in Indonesia has deteriorated sharply, and the government has announced that the blockade measures will be extended to 43 other densely populated epidemic-stricken areas in the country until the 20th of this month. Indonesia has many requirements for foreign trade customs clearance, and the inspection is very strict. If you are not careful, your certificate will be revoked and you will be fined!
Indonesian customs took measures such as temporarily suspending preferential tariff treatment, detaining goods, collecting deposits or levying taxes on goods subject to certificate withdrawal inquiry, and then refunding taxes or other treatments based on the investigation results. In addition, Indonesia's irregular operations such as not returning deposits have seriously damaged the interests of enterprises.
About half of the certificates returned by Indonesian customs can have their deposits returned and enjoy tariff concessions, while the rest are subject to tariffs as usual and their deposits cannot be returned. Some are even fined several times the tariff. To avoid losses, some companies have no choice but to give up the tariff concessions in the free trade zone.
