1 million active stores leverage 250 million users, Facebook may grow against the trend

According to foreign media reports, Facebook CEO Zuckerberg revealed in a Clubhouse discussion a few days ago that the number of active sellers in Facebook Shop, which was launched less than a year ago, has reached 1 million, and more than 250 million users actively interact with the store every month.

"So I think the benefits and advancements that will come from adding these tools to Facebook are going to be amazing, and I think the next five years will see explosive growth in the potential of some of these verticals," he said .

Facebook Shop was first launched in the United States in May 2020 , and then expanded to the UK and Canadian markets in February of this year .

Facebook Shop allows brands to list their product catalogs directly on the Facebook app and sell items directly on Facebook.

Facebook Shop can help sellers customize their store style, connect Facebook Shop and Instagram Shop, and guide consumers to visit sellers' stores from Facebook pages, Instagram profiles, Instagram shopping ads, or shoppable posts and stories. Consumers can also contact sellers directly through Messenger, Instagram Direct, and WhatsApp to ask questions, get support, and track delivery.

However, it should be noted that Apple's upcoming IDFA policy update may have a strong impact on the personalized advertising business of social media platforms such as Facebook. Facebook was also worried before, warning sellers that the effectiveness of its advertising will be greatly reduced, and the revenue obtained from advertising may also drop by more than 50%, or even lose all the money.

Just as Facebook was doing its best to prepare for the challenges of the IDFA policy change, Zuckerberg changed his previous resistance and confusion in the Clubhouse discussion and expressed optimism that this change would benefit Facebook if more companies decided to sell goods directly through Facebook and Instagram.

“If Apple’s changes will make it harder for businesses to use data to target potential customers from outside our platform, this will encourage more businesses to do business on our platform, putting us in a stronger position,” he said .

If Zuckerberg's "prediction" comes true, Apple's iOS14 IDFA privacy policy adjustment will add fuel to the booming development of Facebook Shop and Instagram Shop, becoming a typical case of "a blessing in disguise" under the "impossible to guard against" policy adjustment.
