Lamoda: Russian demand for household goods grows 39%

According to a recent study by Lamoda, a Russian fashion e-commerce company, Russians’ demand for household goods has increased by 39% since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. Although Russia’s home quarantine has been lifted and many people have returned to the office, people are still actively “decorating” their apartments.

Between March 30 and April 11, 2021, demand for tableware increased 2.3 times compared with the same period last year, demand for bedding increased 1.5 times, demand for home fragrances increased 26%, and demand for decorations increased 31%.

According to Lamoda, during the pandemic, interest in home comfort products saw the biggest growth in April last year, with sales that month up 70% from the previous month. In addition, Russians spent the most on New Year's Eve and in February-March this year when buying gifts for family and friends.

The most popular products over the past year have been towels, double beds, pillows, blankets, fragrances, cups and bath mats. Russians spend an average of 7,767 rubles on such a set.

Lamoda also analyzed the average spending of residents in different cities on household goods. During the epidemic, residents of Krasnoyarsk spent the most, and the average household goods order in this city was 8% higher than the Russian average. Residents of Krasnoyarsk pay the most attention to updating bathroom supplies. They buy bath mats at an average price of 13.5% higher than other regions, and fragrances are relatively expensive at 10.5%.

In second place are residents of Voronezh, who spend 7% more on household goods than the Russian average. Voronezh residents pay the most attention to bedrooms and wardrobes, and are willing to pay more than the average for hangers, blankets and other bedding.

In third place are residents of the capital Moscow, who spend nearly 4% more on household goods than the national average. Muscovites are particularly interested in blankets, spending 12.6% more on them than residents of other regions. In addition, Chelyabinsk and Rostov-on-Don ranked fourth and fifth in terms of average order value for household goods.
