About FSSAI

FSSAI is responsible for protecting, supporting and encouraging public health through the directive and regulation of food safety and for developing principles of food science for continuous inspection, examination and control of production, storage, distribution, sale and import of food to ensure the availability of safe and wholesome food for human consumption.

Function

• A set of laws and policies were developed to set food safety standards;
• prepared policies and guidelines for formal accreditation of food testing laboratories;
• Assisting central government by providing technical support and scientific advice;
• Collect data on food consumption and food contamination by conducting surveys;
• Broadcasting information to support, encourage and spread awareness about food safety;

• Contribute to the advancement and development of global technical standards in areas such as food and health.
