eBay auctions royal items, what does the royal family mean to the British?

Prince Philip's death has prompted a flurry of activity among royal collectors on eBay, with one seller even offering tax certificates from one of his old cars.

Since the Duke of Edinburgh died last Friday, hundreds of items have appeared on auction websites, from photographs to coins, mugs and stamps bearing his image. The most expensive item sold was a 1972 Christmas card signed by the Queen and the Duke, featuring a picture of the royal family relaxing at Balmoral, for £2,999.

On April 12, there was also a pair of rare chalk busts of the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh that appeared at the Coronation, starting at £50, and an unopened 2002 Queen's Golden Jubilee biscuit jar. There was also a vintage Duke of Edinburgh silver medallion badge, which reached £21 after ten bids, and a black-and-white photograph with a handwritten note that it was taken in 1959, priced at £1,500.

One of the most unusual items on the block is the tax record for a 2008 Duke University ex-Aston Martin Lagonda, which starts at £10.

For the British, the existence of the royal family is of great significance. Even though the royal family does not hold much actual power under the current British system, in the eyes of the British, the symbolic significance of the royal family far exceeds its actual significance.

A long time ago, there was a poll in the UK on whether the UK should abolish the royal family. The results showed that more than 90% of the British people disagreed with the abolition of the royal family, while only no more than 3% were in favor of abolishing the royal family. Most British people were willing to pay tens of millions of dollars for it every year.

Engels once said: Without the monarchy in the British Constitution, the entire building would collapse. In other words, the British royal family is the cornerstone of British capitalism and has absolute centripetal force and cohesion in the UK. It is no exaggeration to call it the living fossil of the UK, which is equivalent to the historical symbol of the UK.

Even in times of disaster, the British royal family can often play a role in calming the people. During the British epidemic, the Queen has made many speeches, calling on the British people to unite to fight the epidemic and overcome difficult times together. Its propaganda and educational role far exceeds that of the BBC.
